The Nigeria Police Force has revealed that it possesses intelligence reports concerning the recent airstrikes carried out by the United States against terrorist elements in Sokoto State.
However, the police clarified that details of the operation would not be made public, stressing that such information falls under defence matters and should be addressed by the appropriate authorities.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
Hundeyin confirmed that Nigerian security agencies worked in collaboration with the United States government and that the operation received full authorization from President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, the police are deeply involved in intelligence gathering beyond mere intelligence sharing but would refrain from discussing specifics of the airstrikes.
“We engage extensively in intelligence gathering. As a police force, we are aware of certain aspects of the strikes, but we will not disclose them. We prefer to leave that operation as a defence matter for the defence authorities to speak on,” he said.
Naija News reports that the U.S. government launched airstrikes on December 25, 2025, targeting terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State.
The United States Department of Defence confirmed that several ISIS terrorists were eliminated during the operation.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian federal government also acknowledged that it was fully aware of the mission and provided intelligence support to the United States to facilitate the successful execution of the strikes.
