Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has expressed confidence that the alliance between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement will bring an end to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general election.
Oyegun made the statement on Monday in Benin City, Edo State, during a formal reception organised for members of the Obidient Movement who recently defected in large numbers to the ADC.
According to him, the mass defection is a clear indication that Nigerian youths are ready to move beyond social media activism and actively participate in purposeful political engagement.
The development comes shortly after the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, aligned himself with the ADC, a move that has continued to reshape the opposition political landscape.
Speaking at the event, Oyegun said the growing number of high-profile politicians and young Nigerians joining the party has strengthened his belief that Nigeria is on the brink of major political change.
“The quality and commitment of those joining our party reinforces my belief that a new Nigeria is possible,” he said.
Reflecting on recent political developments, Oyegun recalled the entry of media entrepreneur Dele Momodu into the ADC, noting that the influx of committed youths further proves that Nigerians are ready for serious nation-building.
“Just a few days ago, Dele Momodu joined us. Today, I am seeing a large number of young people who are truly committed to building this country. Meeting members of the Obidient Movement in such numbers convinces me that the youth are ready for meaningful political action,” he stated.
He further assured the defectors that choosing the ADC was a step in the right direction, adding that he has always believed in the coalition’s vision from the outset.
Oyegun also pointed to widespread dissatisfaction with governance at both the federal level and in Edo State, urging Nigerians to unite and channel their frustrations into collective political action.
“Our task is simple and urgent: we have a country to save. Through the ADC, we can turn the dream of a new Nigeria into reality,” he concluded
