The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on the Kano State Government to ensure that anyone found guilty of the gruesome murder of a family of seven is sentenced to death.
The monarch made this demand on Monday while addressing journalists over the brutal killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State.
Emir Sanusi warned that showing leniency to perpetrators of such heinous crimes would only encourage further bloodshed, stressing that killers must face the full weight of the law.
According to him, allowing murderers to escape severe punishment would make the killing of innocent people a recurring occurrence.
“If someone kills and is allowed to walk free, the killing of innocent people will never end,” the Emir stated.
The traditional ruler also offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant comfort and strength to the bereaved family and the Muslim community at large during the difficult period.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three key suspects linked to the tragic incident. Police identified the alleged mastermind as 23-year-old Umar Auwalu, a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters and a nephew of the deceased woman.
Security sources revealed that two of the murdered children, including a newborn baby, were later discovered inside a nearby well.
Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended through intelligence-driven operations conducted between the night of January 17 and the early hours of January 18, under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities assure the public that justice will be served.
