Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in Kano State, describing the incident as a “barbaric act of violence.”
Kwankwaso also praised the Kano State Police Command for the swift arrest of suspects allegedly linked to the gruesome crime.
Recall that the police recently arrested three suspects in connection with the murder, which occurred at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano Municipal Local Government Area. The arrests followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and were carried out through an intelligence-driven operation coordinated by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu (23), Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe (40), and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo (21).
Reacting to the development in a personally signed message, Kwankwaso condemned the actions of the suspects while commending the police for their prompt response.
While expressing sympathy to the bereaved family and the Dorayi Chiranchi community, the NNPP chieftain urged security agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation and that justice is fully served.
According to him, the arrest of the suspects within hours offers some reassurance amid the tragedy, but stressed that those found culpable must face the full weight of the law to deter future occurrences.
Kwankwaso further called on residents of Kano State to remain vigilant and strengthen communal bonds, noting that collective responsibility and alertness are essential in tackling violence and safeguarding lives.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, asking Allah to grant them eternal rest and give their loved ones the strength to bear the loss
