President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set up a reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, named as its chairman.
Other members of the committee include the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi, will act as secretary of the committee, while the Chief of Staff to the Yobe State Governor, Abdullahi Gashua, will also serve in the secretariat.
The committee has been tasked with resolving the lingering internal crisis within the APC in Benue State. Its mandate includes identifying the causes of factionalism and disunity, engaging critical stakeholders and party organs to foster reconciliation, and recommending structural, procedural and strategic measures to ensure lasting peace and unity within the party.
Members of the panel are also expected to submit a detailed report with actionable recommendations for the President’s consideration.
The reconciliation committee is to begin work immediately, consulting widely with relevant stakeholders across Benue State.
This appointment marks the second time President Tinubu has assigned such a responsibility to Speaker Abbas. About four months ago, he headed a similar APC reconciliation committee in Bauchi State.
