Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has once again emphasized the importance of responsibility and practical leadership, sharing a personal story from his days in office.
Obi, who spoke during a Space chat on 𝕏 with members of his support base known as the Obidients, recalled an incident that occurred years ago on a British Airways flight while he was still a sitting governor.
According to him, a passenger had opened the aircraft restroom but immediately walked away because it was dirty. Instead of ignoring the situation, Obi said he chose to step in and clean it himself.
“We were coming back on British Airways years back; I was a serving governor. The entire toilet was messed up. She opened that toilet to use it; it was messed up and she walked away,” he recounted.
He added that his action shocked one of the airline staff after returning to discover the restroom had been cleaned.
“I went in there, and she came back. The entire place was cleaned… She later told a minister and somebody else in her office, saying she couldn't believe it,” Obi narrated.
Explaining why he did it, Obi said:
“I cleaned it because maybe I would be the next person that would go back there to use it.”
Using the incident as a lesson, Obi urged Nigerians to develop the habit of fixing problems rather than pretending not to see them.
“When you see things that are wrong, clean them. I don’t have house help in my house; everybody knows that. Let us stop all this fake life,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, British Airways had not yet responded to Obi’s claims.
