A security analyst, Brant Philip, disclosed the incident on Thursday following the circulation of a video online, which was allegedly released by the extremist group.
According to Philip, ISWAP shared footage showing a Christian settlement in Adamawa consumed by fire, accompanied by a message threatening Christians across Nigeria.
“ISWAP released images of a Christian village in Adamawa State burning, alongside a statement declaring that all Christians in Nigeria are legitimate targets,” Philip wrote on X. He added that the group claimed Christians could “spare their blood” by converting to Islam or paying a jizyah tax to ISWAP.
The latest attack is believed to be a retaliatory response to recent joint airstrikes conducted by Nigerian and United States forces against terrorist enclaves in the North-West.
It will be recalled that five days earlier, former US President Donald Trump announced that American forces, working alongside Nigerian authorities, carried out airstrikes targeting terrorist elements in Sokoto State.
ISWAP, a splinter faction of Boko Haram, has in recent years escalated attacks on Christian and Muslim communities, security personnel, and civilian targets across the North-East, despite ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling the group.
