Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to his recent confrontation with naval officer Lt. A.M. Yarima, describing the incident as something that was “bound to happen.”
Naija News recalls that Lt. Yarima, who was on duty alongside other security operatives at a disputed land site in the Gaduwa District, clashed with Wike during a demolition exercise. The encounter — captured in a viral video — triggered nationwide controversy and led to intervention from the Presidency, which eventually halted the demolition.
The aftermath of the incident also saw various military veterans across the country condemn Wike’s verbal exchange with the officer, while many rejected calls for disciplinary action against Lt. Yarima.
Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja, Wike noted that although the encounter drew public attention, he has no regrets about his actions.
He said:
“Like I said, I am human; you can’t expect things to be smooth all the time. I don’t have any regrets. Every decision I have set, I have been able to achieve. Yes, there could be one or two setbacks — it’s bound to happen. But like I said, I don’t have regrets about any decision I have taken.
In politics, you expect to see such situations. If they happen, that shouldn’t make you think there are problems you cannot overcome, and we have still surmounted them.”
