The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has debunked claims that a terrorist group is operating within his domain, cautioning against the spread of what he described as misleading and false information about the town.
Naija News reports that the monarch, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reacted to a report alleging that a religious terrorist group known as Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen had moved to weaken security in Iwo by undermining the Jaysu Security Network.
Oba Akanbi dismissed the allegation as untrue, insisting that Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in the South-West. He stressed that the town’s security architecture is intact and that local security operatives work closely with the police to arrest hardened criminals. He also warned that those spreading false narratives about Iwo would be arrested.
“The report claiming the presence of a terrorist group in Iwo is false and baseless,” the monarch said. “Iwo remains the most peaceful town in the South-Western states, largely due to the activities of the Jaysu Security Network, an annex of Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen led by Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan.”
According to him, Imran Molaasan is a respected international figure who has successfully handled several global assignments and is also a notable education philanthropist, providing scholarships for indigent students. He added that Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen has been in existence for over 20 years and runs more than 40 schools in Iwo, including a College of Education and several orphanage homes.
“I do not understand how contributing to national security and academic excellence is being labelled as terrorism,” the Oluwo stated. “No terrorist can enter Iwo. Iwo is peaceful.”
He further noted that members of the Jaysu Security Network have extensive knowledge of the town and assist the police in tracking and arresting criminals. He highlighted that Iwo has no movement restrictions at any time, including midnight, describing it as one of the freest towns in the region.
“You cannot place sacrifices at road junctions in Iwo,” he added. “Anyone who attempts such will be arrested by the Jaysu Security Network. The false reports are being sponsored by enemies of the Oluwo, Iwo, and the uncompromising stance of Jaysu in protecting the town. There are no bandits in Iwo, and none can invade Iwoland.”
Oba Akanbi concluded by describing those spreading the claims as “social media terrorists and bandits,” assuring residents that appropriate actions would be taken against individuals attempting to create unnecessary tension by circulating fake information.
