Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a strong warning to hotels, restaurants, and event centres against unjustified price increases and the cancellation of already confirmed bookings during the ongoing December festive season.
Speaking during an interview with TVC News on Monday, the governor said the Lagos State Government will no longer tolerate service providers who abandon prior agreements in favour of higher-paying customers.
Sanwo-Olu noted that such practices negatively affect Lagos’ image as a major tourism and cultural hub, stressing that the state’s reputation must be protected.
He disclosed that relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), have been fully briefed and are prepared to take action against defaulters.
According to the governor, vendors who fail to honour confirmed bookings — especially where deposits or formal agreements exist — will face serious consequences.
“This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be allowed in Lagos. Once a commitment has been made, vendors must honour it. Cancelling bookings because someone else is offering more money destroys trust and damages the image of our city,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He added that the government will publicly expose erring businesses and enforce strict sanctions to deter others.
“We will not only name and shame those involved, but the government will also come down hard on them. Lagos will not tolerate actions that undermine its reputation,” he warned.
