The Federal Government has officially gone fully digital, as all federal ministries and key government departments have now abandoned paper-based correspondence.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Didi Esther Walson-Jack, announced this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen, confirming that ministries have been fully digitalised and will now operate strictly through electronic communication.
According to Walson-Jack, over 100,000 official GovMail email accounts have been created for civil servants to ensure all government communications are secure, professional, and auditable. She emphasized that federal ministries will no longer accept physical documents — only scanned letters and emails sent through approved government email channels.
She noted that digital operations have now been implemented across 38 Federal Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments (MEMDs), including:
The State House
Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation
Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation
Federal Civil Service Commission
Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation
Walson-Jack highlighted the benefits of the new system, stating:
“This strengthens sovereignty over official correspondence, enhances efficiency across MDAs, and reduces reliance on unofficial communication channels. GovMail is also saving the Federal Government billions of Naira annually by eliminating fragmented email subscriptions.”
She added that the government is working with telecommunications providers to make internet access more affordable and reliable for MDAs, while designing a long-term pricing model to keep digital platforms sustainable.
Effective immediately, all submissions to Federal Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments must be done electronically through the official registry email addresses published on the HCSF website.
Citizens can now track their correspondence online through the Federal Civil Service Paperless Portal, eliminating the need for physical letters, envelopes, and walk-in submissions.
