Recall that Joshua was involved in a serious accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area of Ogun State. The Lexus SUV he was travelling in reportedly collided with a stationary truck, leading to the death of two people, while Joshua survived with minor injuries.
Reacting via Instagram, AY described the incident as heartbreaking, saying Nigeria continues to lose lives because of failed infrastructure, lack of road safety systems and poor leadership.
AY wrote:
“Today is a painful reminder of how cheaply lives are treated in Nigeria. It is devastating that a Nigerian who has carried our flag with pride across the world can return home only for two of his closest associates to be met by death on our roads. This is not fate. This is failure — failure of infrastructure, failure of leadership.”
He questioned how many more lives must be lost due to unsafe roads, stressing that Nigeria urgently needs accountability, proper enforcement, safer transportation systems and an effective emergency response structure.
“This tragedy is traumatising and unacceptable. A country that cannot protect its people is a country in urgent need of accountability. We need safer roads and a government that treats human life as sacred, not disposable.”
AY also sent condolences to the families affected, praying for strength for Anthony Joshua during this difficult time.
“My heart is heavy for Anthony Joshua. My prayers are with the families of the departed. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Nigeria must do better. Lives depend on it.”
