Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday presented a ₦644,004,816,893 appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly, placing strong emphasis on capital development and security.
The governor formally laid the budget proposal before lawmakers at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin, describing it as a strategic financial plan aimed at consolidating ongoing development initiatives, completing key projects, and addressing the pressing needs of residents across the state.
A detailed breakdown of the budget shows that ₦424.7 billion, representing 65.98 per cent, has been allocated to capital expenditure, while ₦219.3 billion, or 34.02 per cent, is set aside for recurrent spending.
AbdulRazaq explained that the budget structure reflects his administration’s commitment to prioritising infrastructure development, social investment programmes, and projects capable of delivering long-term economic benefits.
“The total size of the budget for the 2026 fiscal year is ₦644,004,816,893,” the governor stated.
He noted that security remains a major focus of the 2026 budget, with increased funding provided for security equipment, operational vehicles, and modern technology to enhance the state’s capacity to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities.
“The 2026 budget places strong emphasis on security, with increased funding for security hardware, operational vehicles and modern technology to strengthen the state’s response to kidnapping and other criminal activities,” AbdulRazaq said.
According to the governor, the proposed budget is designed to consolidate development gains while improving the welfare and safety of residents across Kwara State.
Responding on behalf of the legislature, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu, assured the governor that the appropriation bill would undergo thorough legislative scrutiny in the interest of the people.
“This bill will receive in-depth legislative consideration to ensure it ultimately serves the best interests of the people of Kwara State,” Salihu said.
He added that lawmakers were encouraged by the spread of ongoing development projects across the state’s 16 local government areas and pledged that the Assembly would carefully review the budget to ensure effective implementation.
