A high-level delegation of Igbo spiritual leaders has visited the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The visit was spearheaded by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, also known as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine (Mother of All Igbo Masquerades) and a former Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Housing. She represented Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo nile—the collective body of titled spiritual mothers across Igboland.
In a statement released following the visit, the delegation conveyed what it described as strong maternal solidarity and spiritual backing for Kanu. Prayers were offered during the meeting, while ancestral blessings were invoked as part of what the group called a sacred responsibility toward the Igbo nation.
The spiritual mothers said their intervention reflects their role as custodians of cultural and ancestral values, pledging continued peaceful advocacy for justice and fairness.
Beyond the visit, the group announced plans to consult widely with traditional rulers, eminent leaders, and spiritual authorities across Nigeria. According to the delegation, the move is aimed at encouraging dialogue and mobilizing moral support toward Kanu’s unconditional release.
They appealed to Nigerians, especially those from the South-East, to remain calm, prayerful, and committed to lawful and peaceful engagement as legal proceedings continue.
Kanu remains in custody amid ongoing court processes, with his case continuing to draw reactions from socio-cultural groups and political stakeholders nationwide.
