Wike: ‘Impeachment Proceedings Is Calculated Attempt To Oust Fubara’ – Baba Yusuf

A political strategist, Baba Yusuf, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of being behind the impeachment moves against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, Yusuf described the impeachment plot as a deliberate and well-planned effort to remove Governor Fubara from office.

According to him, the Rivers governor has allegedly been unable to fully carry out his mandate for more than three years due to ongoing political tensions. Yusuf argued that the impeachment process would not have arisen if relations between Wike and Fubara had remained cordial.

He further noted that impeachment proceedings in Nigeria are often triggered by political disagreements rather than genuine constitutional concerns, describing the situation as a recurring and unfortunate feature of the country’s political landscape.

“My view is that this is a game being played by political gladiators in Rivers State, particularly between Wike’s camp and Fubara’s camp,” Yusuf said.

“In my opinion, the impeachment proceedings are a calculated attempt to oust Governor Fubara.

“You will agree with me that if things were fine between Wike and Fubara, we wouldn’t be hearing about impeachment at all.

“I hope this issue is resolved quickly so that the people of Rivers State, and Nigerians at large, can enjoy good governance in the state.”

The impeachment controversy has continued to fuel political tension in Rivers State, drawing national attention to the ongoing power struggle within the state’s political leadership.
