A senator has dismissed reports suggesting he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Ajiri Daniels, the lawmaker clarified that he remains a member of the PDP and has not joined any other political party.
The statement explained that the senator’s reduced presence in political activities is due to a period of mourning following the death of the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. According to the aide, the senator deliberately stepped back from active political engagements as a mark of respect.
It further revealed that he has been receiving condolence visits from friends, political associates, and well-wishers from across the country, cutting across different political parties and backgrounds.
While noting that the senator continues to monitor political developments, the statement said he intends to consult widely with allies and associates nationwide after the burial before making any political decisions. Any outcome of such consultations, it stressed, will be communicated through official channels.
The statement also reaffirmed the senator’s strong influence within the PDP, expressing hope that the party will resolve its internal challenges in line with its historic role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The senator urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the defection rumours, describing them as fake news designed to mislead Nigerians. He advised citizens to rely solely on information released via his official communication platforms.
